Floresta Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and preservation of the Amazon Forest and the people who live there. We are committed to preserving the health of the rainforest and the people who inhabit it, most of whom are poor and under-privileged, by providing education, training, and access to ecological developments and social services that will help support and empower local communities to sustain themselves, the forest, and ultimately, the planet.
The Amazon rainforest is the largest tropical forest in the world and runs through nine countries in South America. The vegetation that covers the basin constitutes one half of the remaining forest on Earth; approximately one million of the world’s estimated five million species of plants and animals live in the Amazon, and are found nowhere else. The rainforest supplies 80% of the world’s replenished oxygen; it is one of the few frontiers remaining on Earth that harbors plants yet undiscovered by humankind which could potentially cure any number of diseases. It is home to numerous uncategorized animal species, the study of which could help us better understand our past and better prepare for our future. But the forest is in danger. Encroaching development and industrialization threaten the rainforest with deforestation. Inadequate human infrastructure does not provide for efficient and effective sanitation, waste management or recycling, resulting in pollution that threatens the health of the forest.
These major challenges affect not only the myriad of plant and animal life flourishing under the canopy of the Amazon rainforest, but also pose serious consequences to the health and welfare of the local inhabitants whose lives are intimately intertwined with the forest and who are its most significant and indispensable caretakers. It is Floresta Project, Inc.'s belief that the key to keeping the Amazon rainforest strong and healthy is to keep its local native populations strong and healthy by providing them with the tools and resources they need to meet the challenges of industrialization and modernization. By empowering local communities to sustain themselves in an environmentally friendly way, Floresta Project, Inc. will directly help improve the lives of the native people, preserve the rainforest and support the health of the global community and the global environment.

The Community Center project was developed by a local women’s initiative called "Emflores" in the village center of Flona Purus, Pauiní. Its purpose being – a center to help the needy and to offer broad services to the community.

The Community Center will be the first bio-architectural (green building) in this village that will be built using environmentally and responsibly produced materials and techniques.
Services offered to the community:
In 2010, Floresta plans to begin fundraising for a community organic garden that will supply food to the co-op in the village center of Flona Purus, Pauiní. The distribution of food through the co-op will involve a multi-tiered program that provides food free of cost to the poor and underprivileged village members.
Floresta will educate local farmers and villagers about the techniques in permaculture, composting and agroforestry, and will assist in the development of the gardens.
